Movies based on real events attract a special crowd in Bollywood. Biopics usually do well at the box office and that’s proof enough that audiences love watching non-fictional stories about inspiring people or real events that shocked the world. Whether Ranveer Singh 83, runway 34 with Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan, or At Akshay Kumar The lower end of the bell, the films managed to strike a chord with the public. The year 2022 also looks promising, as a number of releases based on real events are in the works. Let’s take a look:
Prithviraj
The Yash Raj film, based on the life of Maharaja Prithviraj Chauhan, has been in the works for some time. Akshay Kumar’s film also stars Miss World Manushi Chhillar as Princess Sanyogita. Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood will also be seen in the film.
Shabaash Mithu
We’ve seen a number of biopics in Bollywood, but there haven’t been too many about female athletes. Shabaash Mithu is set to change that as he is based on legendary cricketer and ODI captain of Indian women’s national cricket team Mithali Raj. Taapsee Pannu plays the lead role.
Major
Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, Major is a biographical action drama based on true events. It tells the story of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was martyred while rescuing people during the 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai. The film will star Telugu actor Adivi Sesh.
Maidaan
Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan will tell the story of the golden age of Indian football and that of coach Syed Abdul Rahim who coached the team to win the Asian Games in 1951 and 1962. Directed by Amit Sharma, the film also stars Kerthy Suresh.
Pipa
The war drama of Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur and Priyanshu Painyuli Pipa will tell the story of a war hero, Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, who fought in the war against Pakistan in 1971. Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the film is based on the book Hot Chaffees by Brigadier Mehta.
The Delhi Files
After hit movies like Tashkent Files and Kashmir records, Vivek Agnihotri will be released The Delhi Files based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. In an interview, the director said: “Tashkent Files talked about the right to the truth, The Kashmir Files will talk about the right to justice, and The Delhi Files will talk about Right To Life.
Sam Bahadur
With Vicky Kaushal as Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Sam Bahadur is a film by Meghna Gulzar who directed Alia Bhatt starring Raazi. With a military career spanning four decades and five wars, Sam Manekshaw was the very first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal, and his military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War led to the establishment of the Bangladesh.
