All eyes are on Aamir Khan for his upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha. The long-awaited film is finally ready for release after a long delay due to various obstacles over the past few years. Aamir Khan, who asked the public not to boycott Laal Singh Chaddha and demanded to watch his film, has spoken out about Bollywood’s box office drought.
Following the recent record of Bollywood movies, despite A-lister actors and superstar movies failed to win the hearts of the public and earn well. At that time, Hindi films were compared to those from the South which garnered global attention. During Laal Singh Chaddha promotions, Aamir Khan spoke out on Bollywood’s low success rate.
He said, “I don’t see a phase change. Historically, movies that are bad and don’t impress audiences don’t work at the box office. That’s what happened. Movies like Pushpa, The Kashmir Files, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 were loved by the audience and thus worked at the box office. For me, this is what I see as a permanent trend. If a film is good, it will work.
The Southern versus Bollywood debate has been brought to light with the success of Southern films. The PK actor doesn’t believe in comparisons and said, “I think every filmmaker tries to do their best. Ultimately, as a viewer, I don’t care what part of India the film is from. Why should I worry? If I am entertained and emotionally satisfied by watching a film in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Hindi or Marathi, then what is wrong? Agar South ki filmein chal rahi hai aur logon ko pasand aa rahi hai, toh uss mein takleef kya hai? Yeh toh aachi baat hai.
The 3 Idiots actor also suggested that OTT platforms act like a spoiled sport. He mentioned when the movies will be released online in a few weeks, why anyone would want to visit theaters. He explained: Yeh toh wohi baat ho gayi ki aap kahi mat jao… main aa raha hu aapke pass. So I always fought for a 6 month gap in digital release.
Coming to his movie Laal Singh Chaddha, it is an official adaptation of Hollywood movie Forrest Gump. The comedy-drama film stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Mona Singh in key roles.
