Alia Bhatt thinks Bollywood actors’ salaries should be ‘reassessed’ after several failures

Alia Bhatt has been painting the town since she married her longtime father-in-law Ranbir Kapoor and later announced she was going to be a mother. To top it off, the long-awaited trailer for her upcoming movie “Darlings” managed to captivate fans with her exquisite acting skills and phenomenal screen presence. Gangubai actress Kathiawadi, who is very vocal about her point of view, recently shared her opinion on the changing value of fame.

In a candid chat with Express Adda, Alia responded on what stardom means, especially in the current context of back-to-back box office debacles, and whether that alone determines a star’s bankability and relevance. Bollywood. She said, “What makes a star? It’s love, but there’s also a certain kind of star that’s going to make money at the box office. But that can’t happen now without content, it’s ultimately the power of content that draws audiences to cinemas. Sure, there’s a certain larger-than-life big-screen experience that you can’t replace, but the depth of good content that stands the test of time is something people should be looking for and are looking for. So fame comes from the content you give to people.

She further explained that the actors’ salaries would have to be balanced if the film did not perform at the box office. The actress also cited examples of actors who refused to take a pending fee, especially when the film turned out to be a dud. She said: “I agree that star salaries should be balanced against the film’s budget. But then, I’m no one to tell anyone what to charge, kyunki main toh choti hun (because I’m still young). If you ask me if a reassessment in general should take place, I’m sure every producer thinks that way… Even a star thinks that way.

Work-wise, Alia Bhatt recently wrapped filming Karan Johar’s new age romance film “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” where she would star alongside Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. The highly publicized film is set to release on February 10, 2023. Gangubai actress Kathiawad is also looking forward to the highly anticipated release of Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra alongside her husband Ranbir Kapoor.
