Laal Singh Chaddha
“Laal Singh Chaddha” made headlines for its various locations, long and grueling filming schedule, delays due to the pandemic, and the incredible transformation of perfectionist Aamir Khan into the main character. This long-awaited comedy-drama is directed by Advait Chandan from a screenplay written by Eric Roth and Atul Kulkarni. The film is produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Viacom18 Studios and Paramount Pictures and is the official adaptation of the 1994 film Forrest Gump (based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom). The film also stars Kareena Kapoor and Naga Chaitanya in her Hindi film debut.
According to the first trailer for this biographical crime drama, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Gangubai Kathiawadi” will be a show like no other. Powered by another unforgettable performance by Alia Bhatt, the film is produced by Bhansali himself and Jayantilal Gada. It also stars Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa with Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi in extended appearances. The story traces the journey of young Ganga who fights against circumstances to become Gangubai, the madam who rules the red light zone of Kamathipura with an iron fist. The film, loosely based on S. Hussain Zaidi’s book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”, is slated for release in Hindi and will also be dubbed in Telugu. The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on February 18, 2022.
The YRF film based on the king of the Chahamana (Chauhan) dynasty Prithviraj Chauhan features a set of Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Ashutosh Rana, Sakshi Tanwar, Manav Vij and Lalit Tiwari. The film directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi is scheduled to hit screens on January 21.
KGF Chapter 2
Following the resounding success of KGF Chapter 1, the sequel to the 2018 film, KGF Chapter 2 is an upcoming Kannada-era action drama film written and directed by Prashanth Neel, and produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the Hombale Films banner. Considering the growing popularity of South Indian films across the country, this film is set to be a smash hit. ‘Looop Lapeta’ is the official Hindi remake of the 1998 German cult classic ‘Run Lola Run’. Directed by Aakash Bhatia and jointly produced by Sony Pictures Films India, Ellipsis Entertainment and Aayush Maheshwari, the film stars Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin in the lead roles. It will be interesting to see how the film reinterprets the premise of Tom Tykwer’s original in the Indian context, and how Taapsee’s ever-reliable story channels the character made famous by Franka Potente. We can’t wait to see how the film captures a frantic race against time and how a determined woman challenges the clock to save the life of a loved one.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva
Perhaps the biggest release on the list, “Brahmastra” has been in the works for eight years. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the superhero film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni and will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada on September 9.
“Major” is a gripping story of courage and tells the story of the events that led to the ultimate sacrifice of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan in the terrorist attacks of 11/26 in 2008. Carefully researched and filmed with great attention to the extraordinary life of Major Unnikrishnan, this Biographical action film is directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka and produced by Sony Pictures Films India, G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment and A + S Movies. Shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi and later dubbed in Malayalam, the film stars Adivi Sesh in the lead role. Adivi also made his Hindi film debut with ‘Major’ and even wrote the screenplay for the film.
Shakun Batra’s third feature film is another great film with a promising cast of Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa in the lead roles, with Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapoor. The recently announced romantic drama will take the OTT route and hit Prime Video on January 25.
The social comedy film written and directed by Divyang Thakkar stars Ranveer Singh as a Gujarati man, who advocates for equal rights for men and women in society. The film is set to hit theaters on February 25.
Starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead role opposite Alaya F, Freddy was directed by Shashanka Ghosh. The film is jointly produced by Ekta Kapoor and Jay Shewakramani under the banners of Balaji Motion Pictures and Northern Lights Films. Freddy marks the first collaboration between the two production houses.
The sixth biggest release of 2022 will see Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor reunite under the umbrella of period action drama. The film, which went into production in December 2018, is currently in post-production and will be released on March 18.
With Kartik Aaryan, Kriti Sanon, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Ronit Roy and Sachin Khedka, Shehzada has all the assets of a successful superhit. The film is an action-packed family musical film directed by Rohit Dhawan. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Allu Arvind, S. Radha Krishna and Aman Gill, the score for the film was composed by Pritam.
Ek Villain returns
Following the thunderous success of Ek Villain, comes the spiritual sequel Ek Villain Returns. The highly anticipated sequel will see a massive Eid release. Ek Villain Returns is a director of Mohit Suri and co-produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under the banners of Balaji Motion Pictures and T-Series. The action thriller stars John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria in key roles.
Starring Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria, “Heropanti 2” is a sequel to Tiger’s first film. The romantic action film directed by Ahmed Khan is set to hit screens on April 29.
Jugg Jeeyo jug
Dharma Productions’ comedy-drama, which stars an ensemble of Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani in lead roles alongside Prajakta Koli and Manish Paul, is another major release slated for release on June 24.
Rohit Shetty’s comedy-drama is an official remake of the 1982 film “Angoor”. It stars Ranveer Singh in a dual role for the first time. Additionally, it also stars Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Sharma, Siddhartha Jadhav, Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra, and is slated for release on July 15th.
The mythological film based on “Ramayan”, which stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, was shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu. The film, along with its Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada dubbed versions, will be released on August 11.
Following the recent release of “Atrangi Re”, Akshay Kumar’s second collaboration with Aanand L. Rai will take the form of “Raksha Bandhan”, where he will be seen sharing the screen with Bhumi Pednekar. The film will collide with ‘Adipurush’ as it hits theaters on August 11.
Vikram Vedha remake
The neo-noir action thriller, which stars Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte, hits theaters on September 30.
Akshay Kumar got a Diwali release for ‘Ram Setu’ directed by Abhishek Sharma. The film also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha, and is set to hit theaters on October 21.
