Bollywood Movies Featuring Now Broken Off-Screen Couples

A trick that Bollywood producers often use when casting for upcoming projects is to feature actors who are also dating off-screen. What this decision essentially guarantees is a free litmus test to judge their on-screen chemistry.

For subsequent films, the off-screen couple brought such a degree of presence and love to their characters that it’s often hard to see them again since they’re no longer together.

What other films can you place in this category? Did you even feel slightly emotional rewatching these movies after they broke up? Let us know in the comments below.

1. “Jab We Met”

Shahid and Kareena’s chemistry in this 2000s classic is the one that will be part of the history of cinema. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, this film went on to break all box office records for the year, but was only released towards the end of their off-screen relationship.

2. ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’

Although, technically, this film was released after their breakup, the film used their past relationship as a ploy to attract audiences. The truth is that it worked. Watching exes on screen together again is a hugely alluring feeling. You love chemistry, but you know it will probably never happen again!

3. ‘Jism’

After having a very public relationship for nearly a decade, Bipasha Basu and John Abraham’s smoking chemistry was captured on film via Mahesh Bhatt fuck. For the first time, India was watching mainstream erotica. This couple changed the rules of the game. However, after their split, the essence of their on-screen camaraderie seems lost.

4. ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’

The Salman Khan-Aishwarya Rai star created waves in 1999. Dating at the time, the pair ensured their off-screen closeness translated into on-screen magic. Although we’re all pro-Aish for leaving a toxic relationship behind, this movie continues to ride high on the nostalgia factor.

5. “Baaja Baaraat Group”

Ranveer Singh’s directorial debut alongside his then-girlfriend Anushka Sharma was a huge hit in 2010. Fans and critics alike were bowled over by the onscreen presence of the film’s protagonists. Based on their on-screen compatibility, the same pairing was repeated for Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl also. However, the couple soon broke up after their second film and went their separate ways.
