Mumbai: A few days ago, we learned that a petition had been filed against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Gangubai Kathiawadi to stop the release of the film. Gangubai’s family members demanded to change the film’s name just two days before the film’s release. In the past, we have seen many Bollywood movies that had to change the name of their movies due to controversy or for hurting the religious feelings of the audience. Today, let’s see the list of Bollywood movies whose titles were changed at the last moment.

This starring film by Shraddha Kapoor was originally titled The Queen Of Mumbai: Haseena. But just before the release date, the makers of the film decided to change the name of the film to Haseena Parkar so that the title would be more accessible to out-of-town audiences.
The titles of Sanjay Leela Bhansali films have always drawn trouble for the filmmaker. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s previous film, Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, was originally called Padmavati. Due to fierce protests and death threats from political groups, the director had to release the film under a new name, Padmaavat.
Ayush Sharma and Warina Hussain made their Bollywood debut with the movie Loveyatri. The original title was Loveratri which the makers of the film decided upon. But there were a few groups of people who thought the movie was making fun of their Navratri festival. An FIR was filed against Salman Khan and the makers of the film due to which they had to change the film’s name just before the film’s release.
Judgment of Hai Kya
This film by Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao, Judgmentall Hai Kya, was originally titled Mental Hai Kya. The film’s title was challenged by the Indian Psychiatric Society who believed the film degraded people with mental problems.
Kiara Advani’s Akshay Kumar and Laxmmi also faced public objections to changing the film’s name. The makers of the film originally decided to have the name Laxmmi Bomb which was later changed to laxmmi. The name change happened because a group of right-wing organizations threatened to boycott the film nationwide. The directors therefore had to change the name of their film.
Sonakshi Sinha and Shahid Kapoor’s star film R…Rajkumar also had to change its name before its release. The film was originally titled Rambo Rajkumar. The creators of the Hollywood movie series Rambo had the copyright reserved for the word. Therefore, the producers of Shahid’s film had to change the title to R…Rajkumar.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first film which faced issues from the religious group for the title of the film. The movie was originally called Raamleela and starred Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. A petition was filed by the religious group to change the name of the film which the makers had to agree to before the film was released.
This light film by Irrfan Khan was originally titled Billu Barber. The film also featured a long cameo from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The film’s makers had to remove the word Barber from the film’s title after the barber revealed the term sounded offensive and hurt their feelings.
John Abraham’s starring film Madras Cafe was originally titled Jaffna by the makers of the film. The film deals with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Jaffna is a popular place in Sri Lanka. Due to immense pressure from the neighboring country, the makers had to change the film’s name to Madras Cafe.
