The long-awaited title track of Gehraiyaan was released last week and within 5 days of its release the video for the song garnered over 25 million views and why not! The song was highly anticipated after the makers dropped part of it with the film’s teaser in December last year. The song features the four main actors – Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa. The song is all the rage on social media and netizens are using it to express their mood and uploading videos and reels to Instagram with their rendition of the song.
Although we know that most of us have already dived deep into the world of Gehraiyaan and listen and hum along to the tunes of the song, here’s one more reason why this is an absolute must –
1) The visuals accompanying the title track of Gehraiyaan give us a better understanding of the characters in the film. From silent stares depicting internal guilt, unrequited love and internal chaos to shifting equations, the song beautifully manages to capture the turmoil and tension in our protagonists’ lives and draws the audience into the narrative.
2) He’s not here for fun. The song drives the narrative forward and isn’t forced into the story. This is not a song where the protagonists lip sync and go into their La La Land like we are used to in Hindi movies. Rather, it sounds like a song that is played from their playlist because we all like to listen to music that matches our current state of mind.
3) Ankur Tewari added magic to the song with his lyrics. Human emotions are complex and vary from person to person and are extremely difficult to decipher. But Ankur managed to talk about unrequited love, holding back emotions, letting go, comparing human emotions to the forces of nature, in the two-and-a-half-minute song.
4) We also see that the relationship between Deepika and Siddhant’s characters, Alisha and Zain, is not just physical, but there is more to it than meets the eye. Zain’s shifting allegiance to his fiancee Tia played by Ananya Panday is also evident in the song. While we see the love and desire in Zain’s eyes when he looks at Alisha, he tries to back down from Tia’s advances.
