What is it about:

Based on Pakadva Vivah which prevails in Bihar and a small town in India, Jabariya Jodi tells the story of a thug (Abhay Singh) who kidnaps newlyweds in order to help them avoid paying heavy dowries for their marriage. With the entry of the heroine, all her ambition in life goes upside down. And not because he is madly in love but because inka concentrates “bistar se zyaada kursi pe hai”. What ensues is a battle or hearts and the girl (Babli Yadav) becomes the kidnapper. What’s hot:

Sidharth takes the role of Bihar ka goonda and does it convincingly. Whether it’s his flair in multi-colored shirts and gamchas or the delivery with which he throws witty on-liners, Sid’s rustic first act deserves a slap. Even Parineeti does his character justice with perfect diction and makes him seem effortless. SidNeeti’s chemistry is also a treat to watch. The slow claps are reserved for Aparshakti Khurana and Sanjay Mishra who light up the screen with their comedic timing and punches. What is not:

The script seems lazy and the editing poor. Directed by Prashant Singh, the film falters at times and misses the plot more often than not. Especially the second half which is beating around the bush for its entire duration without any plot device. The effort to soften the blow of social evils like dowry and forced marriage with comedic intervention is noteworthy but questionable at best. And while Pari has grabbed the accent, Sid’s is inconsistent. The movie is also chock-full of too many forgettable songs. Even the climax goes beyond its welcome with predictable sequences and dialogue.

BL Verdict:

Watch it for the baazi dialogue and serious effort from Sid and Pari. But otherwise, you won’t miss much. We leave with two and a half stars. So, are you planning to watch the movie this weekend? Tweet us @bollywood_life and let us know!
