Renowned Bollywood filmmaker, Subhash Ghai has recently launched an attack on the current generation of Bollywood actors. Comparing them to Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, the director of Pardes said that today’s generation of actors are more interested in doing commercials and asking for fees than working in a movie. He said that SRK, Aamir, Salman and others used to go home right after finishing filming.

The ace filmmaker has made hit movies like Ram Lakhan, Pardes, Taal and many more. In his recent interview, he also said that “we are also becoming too westernized”

Speaking to ETimes, Subhash Ghai said: “Jabse Bollywood naam rakha, shuru hua problem. Inke’s faces turned to Hollywood. Films are written by people who think in English. How will such films reach the masses? They talk about God and the family, but where is the connection? We are also becoming too westernized. It’s great to get to know the world through social media, but you can’t think like a foreigner when you’re making a film for India. Don’t get the outside narrative here. It won’t work. Make leaps in technology, but the DNA and emotion must come from India.

When asked if actors today respect directors, Subhash Ghai praised Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan and said they used to do the job, but today’s generation is getting big brands.

“The actors of the 90s still understand the importance of the story, whether it’s SRK, Salman or Aamir. They want the job done right and they know the money will follow. But today’s generation wants money first they are just bothered by their personal branding and fees they feel like they have become big brands they are surrounded by an entourage who even tell them to look left or right…” Subhash Ghai said.

“They look like sabun tel waale log jo apni tir chhod ke ad karne ke liye chale jaate hain. Gone are the days of actors not sleeping for two days if they had a tough scene coming up. But today’s actors leave a film halfway through for 2/3 days if an advertisement arrives; they shoot it and then come back on the board after a gap,” he added further.
